Mayo Clinic Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification Training Program

The Mayo Clinic Tobacco Treatment Specialist* Certification Training Program is an intensive, five-day course focusing on the skills needed to effectively treat tobacco dependence. Faculty will be from the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center.
A partial list of topics includes: neuropharmacology of nicotine, optimization of pharmacologic management, conducting a basic counseling session, motivational interviewing and other counseling approaches, and application of treatment of tobacco dependence to people with co-morbid conditions. The last half-day of the program will consist of an examination which tests both knowledge and counseling skills. This training program is designed for health-care professionals already providing tobacco dependence treatment and for those with a strong interest in entering the field.

The registration fee of $1,250 per person has been offset by generous funding from the WVDHHR/Division of Tobacco Prevention, resulting in the greatly reduced fee to participants of $100 per person to attend this course.  There is a limit of 30 seats for this training.   All course materials, breakfast and lunch will be included.

A three-hour lecture-based course designed to present healthcare providers with evidence-based recommendations and resources to assist patients in tobacco cessation.

The course is offered free of charge thanks to generous funding from the WVDHHR/Division of Tobacco Prevention.

WHO is this training for? 

Physicians, Physician Assistants, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Midwives, Pharmacists and Social Workers, others interested in helping patients/clients stop using tobacco.  This course is approved for CEUs. CMEs are not offered.
