Stonerise to buy Charleston nursing home

07/11/2013 - The State Journal

CHARLESTON - Stonerise Healthcare of South Charleston has reached an agreement with HCR Manorcare to purchase Heartland of Charleston, a 184-bed nursing and rehabilitation center.

Stonerise has filed a letter of intent with the state Health Care Authority to purchase the center under the name of Chesterfield Company LLC. A formal certificate of need is expected to follow in two weeks. The transaction could be finalized by October 31, 2013 if it receives the approval of the HCA, according to a news release issued July 11.

"Stonerise Healthcare companies strive to be the best employer and provider of nursing care and rehabilitation services in each community we serve," said Larry Pack, managing member, in the news release. "We strive every day to live our mission statement: ‘Through love serve one another.'"

Pack said Chesterfield intends to continue the collective bargaining relationship with the SEIU District 1199. Residents will not be displaced and there will be no disruption to resident care, he said.

Stonerise is privately held. It owns four nursing and rehabilitation centers, all in West Virginia: CareHaven of Pleasants (Belmont), Mapleshire (Morgantown), Springfield Center (Lindside), and Eagle Pointe (Parkersburg).

In the release, Pack said the CareHaven and Springfield homes have been fully renovated in the past year. Mapleshire will be fully renovated by the middle of 2014.
