From the President…

Welcome! to the Tobacco-Free Hospital Initiative website. This initiative, launched by the West Virginia Hospital Association (WVHA), strives for a commitment to healthier tobacco-free communities, and encourages and supports hospitals to lead by example through establishing and enforcing a tobacco-free, campus-wide environment.

To assist in this effort, the Tobacco-Free Hospital Toolkit has been developed to provide hospitals with various resources including, a PowerPoint presentation, letters, press materials, sample policies, as well as links to other resources to assist with tobacco cessation, training and prevention programs. In addition, the WVHA has set up a list-serve for member hospitals that will provide an internal communication network for sharing ideas and discussing concerns related to tobacco-free policies.

Thanks to a grant from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Division of Tobacco Prevention, the Association is able to offer "mini-grants" to hospitals in support of their efforts. An application for mini-grant funding is included in the toolkit. For further information, please contact Cinny Kittle at ckittle@wvha.org or (304) 353-9710.

Thank you for taking this very important first step in the development and implementation of a tobacco-free environment at your facility. It is our hope that you will find the information in the toolkit helpful to you and that through your leadership, other community organizations may be encouraged to establish similar programs.
